Description
The Horsemen of the Apocalypse are the four horsemen described in the first part of the sixth chapter of Revelation. The chapter speaks of a scroll in the right hand of God that is sealed with seven seals, in that scenario Jesus opens the first four of the seven seals, releasing these horsemen who each ride a horse of a different colour, white, red, black and pale. According to exegesis they represent: conquest or Glory, war, famine and death, respectively.
Although the horsemen appear briefly in the book, their importance lies in the number of artistic representations and generally in the influence they had on Western culture.
The reverse of the coin depicts the four horsemen riding their horses forward, riding through cities and leaving ruins in their wake. Each horseman has one or more elements plated in gold, some, like the red horse, also have some elements plated in rose gold.
